Chief’s Welcome

Welcome to the DeForest Windsor Fire and EMS website. Please take a few minutes to explore our site and learn about the dedicated people that serve and have served our community.

I would like to start off by thanking our community members, Village boards, and membership for supporting the DeForest Windsor Fire and EMS Department throughout our history and into our future.

Our department is a combination fire department providing both fire and EMS services, covering four municipalities. These include the Village of DeForest, Village of Windsor, the Towns of Vienna, and Hampden.  As a combination service, our membership includes a full-time Department Chief, full-time EMS Assistant Chief, Divisional Chief/Fire Inspector, 3 full-time firefighter/AEMT’s, 7 full-time Paramedics, an office manager, and 65+ part time members which include paramedics, EMT’s, and Fire Fighters. The department responds to approximately 1600 calls for service each year, from one station located in DeForest.

I am enormously proud of our members dedication to our community, our mission statement, and our core values as a department. It is the vision of the DeForest Windsor Fire and EMS Department to be recognized by both those we serve and our members as:

  • An organization striving to achieve a level of service that is viewed as a benchmark within the fire and EMS services.

  • An exceptional organization dedicated to the ongoing education of members and the public to promote life safety and general wellness and to prevent fires, accidents, and other hazards which may be avoided.

  • A dynamic organization that adjusts to the changing needs of our communities.

  • A respectful collaboration between the membership, the Fire Board, and the communities we serve.

During my tenure as Department Chief, we have seen many changes. Our fleet of vehicles has been significantly upgraded to now include a ladder truck (2018), rescue pumper (2020), and two new ambulances (2018 and 2019). During this time, we have also upgraded our emergency medical services from Advanced EMT to Paramedic and are now bringing a higher level of care to not only our community but to the communities surrounding us by providing Paramedic intercepts.

Respectfully,

Steven D. LaFeber
Department Chief

This training is beneficial to any person who wants to know how to help and is especially beneficial for daycare providers, babysitters, and teachers.

Tours

A tour of the fire station is a great way to meet your local Firefighters, EMTs, and Paramedics while learning how the department operates.

Anyone is welcome to arrange a tour of the fire station. Visitors will be shown pieces of fire and EMS equipment that we use daily during emergency situations.
